Cincinnati Community Safety Partners win national award

MetLife presents check for $15,000.

The Avondale Community Council, Cincinnati Police Department and Uptown Consortium, Inc., along with other community partners, were honored by MetLife Foundation for their accomplishments in improving safety, spurring economic development and facilitating job creation in Avondale.  MetLife presented a $15,000 Neighborhood Revitalization Award to the Cincinnati partners, who were selected from more than 650 applicants nationwide.

Avondale is currently undergoing an energetic revitalization that includes public safety initiatives, economic and housing developments and job creation. Ten local organizations have joined together to fight crime and help identify crime “hot spots.” Through the use of crime mapping and analysis tools, strategic placement of surveillance cameras and additional police patrol in these high crime areas, the neighborhood has experienced decreases of 13 percent in overall crime, 17 percent in neighborhood quality of life crimes, and 41 percent in serious crime involving firearms.

Congratulations to the outstanding community partners making a difference in Avondale. They include:

•    The Avondale Community Council
•    The Avondale Youth Council
•    The Cincinnati Police Department
•    The Cincinnati Initiative to Reduce Violence
•    The City of Cincinnati Department of Community Development and Planning
•    The Community Police Partnering Center
