Community Involvement

The Uptown Consortium is committed to working with the community in the realization of the shared goal of a better Uptown, and has found the community to be a willing and able partner, and remarkably dedicated.

Community involvement with the Consortium began at the organization's inception. Beginning in the fall of 2003, the Consortium initiated an intensive community outreach process that involved more than 40 individual and group sessions with key community, civic and institutional leaders. That dialog has continued, as the Consortium and its president and CEO, Tony T. Brown, continue to meet formally and informally with a wide range of residents, community councils, business owners, developers and other leaders to inform and be informed. In summer 2004, the Consortium convened two "Uptown Summits" to report and garner feedback on its studies and the strategies that were beginning to take shape.

A third Uptown Summit was convened in April of 2005 with the purpose of developing an Uptown Cincinnati brand. Additional community-wide events included well-attended meetings with Congressman Steve Chabot and Cincinnati’s City Council members.

In 2006, the Uptown Consortium furthered its community outreach by hosting its inaugural INFUSE (Increase Neighbor Friendly Uptown Schools and Education) Camp for children aged 11-13. Camp participants took part in a number of public safety and leadership activities. Activities for these youth continue well beyond the camp through Project INFUSE, a program in which the children and counselors will identify community advocates that can help them link with ongoing community problem-solving activities and organizations that encourage citizen responsibility, productivity and public safety.

The Consortium has also been heavily involved in community improvement projects, including participating in the United Way’s Community Care Week and World Changers revitalization projects.
